In an effort to both expand and open more doors for people wanting to become volunteers, the zoo has launched a new training program both for those who can volunteer during the week and another training program for those who can volunteer on weekends.

Without volunteers the zoo could not present over half of the education programs offered each year. These programs include Zoo Adventure where volunteers take live animals to local schools and special events like Habitat for Wildlife Weekend and the Elephant Festival behind the scenes guided tours on weekends and plans are underway to offer educational opportunities on a daily basis by having volunteers staff animal exhibits throughout the zoo. Volunteers who sign up to become "Exhibit Hosts" will be able to choose their favorite animals, learn all they can about that animal, and then host the exhibit during the free time that they have available.
