The El Paso Zoo World of the Sea Lion exhibit features many improvements for both sea lions and zoo visitors. Last year the Zoo installed a touch screen kiosk with narrated video in English and Spanish about the Zoo's four California sea lions. Teachers and librarians in El Paso may request a free copy of the DVD for classroom and school library use. Streaming video
segments of the teaching tool are available on the Zoo's website
at
www.elpasozoo.org.
For more information on obtaining a copy call the Zoo education
office 915-351-5340 or 521-1850 or e-mail
elpasozoo@elpasotexas.gov.
World of the California Sea Lion is a cooperative project
between the Zoo and the El Paso Zoological Society with major
funding by Sierra Providence Health Network and Wells Fargo
Bank.
The educational program at the Zoo is designed to help people
better understand conservation issues impacting the world's
oceans. Seafood Watch cards distributed at daily sea lion
programs guide consumers in making informed choices when selecting
seafood. The cards were developed by the Monterrey Bay Aquarium
and are updated annually with information on fish species
that are becoming endangered because of over harvesting.
