El Paso Zoo Breaks Attendance Record In 2012
January 30, 2013

El Paso, Texas (Jan. 30, 2013) – The El Paso Zoo set a record breaking attendance in 2012 with 354,130 visitors. This is the first time that the zoo has reached this milestone- even after the zoo’s 16% increase when Passport to Africa was completed in March 2010.

This year’s 10% attendance increase follows the opening of the Hunt Family Desert Spring splash pad and the launch of Giraffe Encounters last March. The addition of these two activities have been a success for the zoo and have added to the visitors zoo experience.

“Families know that the zoo is a great family entertainment package. We offer families value and fun as well as the opportunity to discover conservation together. It doesn’t get better than this,” said Zoo Director Steve Marshal

The zoo also credits the increase to strong promotion, community involvement and word of mouth.

“El Paso residents are visiting the Zoo and telling their friends and families about how great the Zoo is- word of mouth is our most powerful promotional tool,” said Karla Martinez, Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator.

The Zoo’s staff is eager for their busy season to begin in March. Zoo visitors will have the opportunity to help kick off the season with “Color Coated”, an Art Gallery compiled of art pieces painted by the zoo’s animals and a week full of animal enrichment from March 16-24. Locally recognized as the Best Place to Take the Kiddos, the El Paso Zoo sits on 35 acres of fun and adventure. Bigger and better than ever, the El Paso Zoo is an expansive green space that is home to exotic animals from around the world and features family attractions such as the African Star train and the Hunt Family Desert Spring. Accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), the El Paso Zoo celebrates the value of animals and natural resources and creates opportunities for people to rediscover their connection to nature.
