2.
Learn about palm oil. Palm oil (or palmitate) is found in MANY foods and personal care products. When palm oil is produced NON-sustainably, thousands of species, including many endangered species like orangutans, Asian elephants and Sumatran rhinos perish due to loss of habitat from clear-cutting of rainforests and uncontrolled burns. When palm oil is produced sustainably, only lands that have already been cleared of their natural forests are used to grow palm trees. The rainforests of Sumatra and Borneo are almost gone and we need to help protect rainforests important to the survival of animals, plants and people. Contact companies using palm oil and ask them to use only palm oil produced sustainably and to indicate that they are using sustainable palm oil on product labels.
