EL PASO ZOO INSTALLS NEW SHADE STRUCTURE FOR PUBLIC PICNIC AREA

Structure to Provide Shade for Families on Hot Days

The El Paso Zoo has installed a new shade structure to provide a cool place for guests to relax when visiting the zoo. The 55 foot by 27 foot structure is located in the center of the zoo where families and school groups frequently sit down to relax and enjoy a meal. With the zoo's newest family attraction, the Hunt Family Desert Spring water feature right in front of the new picnic area shade structure, the zoo's America's plaza will be the place to be this summer.

"The zoo is the place to be this summer! We want to remind families to grab their towels to enjoy the water feature and come to the zoo to cool off! But if you forget your towel, no worries, we're sure you'll dry off while you stroll around the zoo visiting your favorite animal," said Zoo Spokesperson Karla Martinez.

Guests have been asking for more shade and zoo staff wanted to make sure that they responded to the request. Providing shade for guests is a priority and guests will begin to see other shade structures around the zoo.

"Our goal is to provide a fun and comfortable experience to guests when visiting our zoo. This shade structure is going to allow families to picnic and enjoy the Hunt Family Desert Spring water feature in a cooler atmosphere," said Zoo Director Steve Marshall.

Additionally, the shade structure will be available for after hours events and rentals. One of the zoo's best growth opportunities is providing areas for the community to rent space for events, corporate picnics and other gatherings. This structure will not only provide comfort for zoo guests but will also generate some revenue for the zoo.
