Endangered Species Day
May 18-19, 2012
Endangered Species Day is an opportunity for all to learn about the importance of protecting endangered species all over the world and in our own backyards. The El Paso Zoo is home to over two dozen endangered species such as radiated tortoises, Amur leopards, Mexican wolves and orangutans. Planned events for Endangered Species Day include: Endangered species arts & crafts, Educational booths, Games, and so much more.

World Oceans Day and Sunny's Birthday
June 2-3, 2012
Every year during World Ocean Day, The Ocean Project sponsors a celebration of our magnificent oceans, and the El Paso Zoo, in partnership with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums(AZA), will be part of that celebration. Come and join Sunny, our Sea Lion, during a day long, interactive, fun-filled, experience that will deepen your understanding of why we need to protect our oceans, as well as provide a chance to learn how you and your family can help conserve and protect our oceans. Take the pledge! Make a positive commitment by making a lifestyle change to help improve the health of our ocean. Our marine animals have a "home" they call it the OCEAN.

World Cat Day
July 21, 2012. 10am to 3pm.
Everything you wanted to know about our CATS! Come join us for a fun filled day with activities that promote awareness of cats around the world. World Cat Conservation Day will help you and your family become aware of the declining population of wild cats, their importance to our ecosystems, and how we can help conserve them. Come and discover our feline ambassadors such as the Amur leopard, African lion, Brazilian ocelot, Texas ocelot, sand cat, and Malayan tiger. Planned events include cat educational booths, speakers, animal encounter programs, arts and crafts, games, and so much more-oh my!

Bug Awareness Weekend
August 4-5, 2012
It's the annual Back-to-School "BUGAWARENESS WEEKEND 2012" at the El Paso Zoo with fun and games for the whole family. Zoo staff will be breaking out the bugs and letting you see them UP CLOSE at the best place to bug out before school starts. Zoo staff and volunteers will host bugs inside the El Paso Water Utilities Discovery Center just inside the Front Gate from 10am to 4pm each day. Be sure to check the map insert when you arrive for more details.

Asia Enrichment Day and Ibu's Birthday

Savannah the Asian Elephant's 60th Birthday
September 29, 2012
At noon our two Asian Elephants Juno and Savannah will have a short training session with special enrichment items including paper mâchè piñatas and Savannah’s favorite treats. During the training presentation zoo guests will have the opportunity to learn from an education specialist and keepers about elephant behavior, habitat and how elephants can have a happier and healthier life. Savannah was born in the wild sometime in 1952 – that makes her about (60) years old. She is one of the oldest Asian elephants in North America thanks to the excellent care she is getting here at your El Paso Zoo!

Mexican Wolf Awareness Weekend
October 13-14, 2012
The El Paso Zoo, along with its partners, will celebrate Ivy and Ash, the Zoo's Mexican wolves, to help and teach you about the important roles these predators play in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. For many years the Mexican Gray Wolves have been fighting for an opportunity to once again call The Southwest "home." During Mexican wolf Awareness weekend, you will have an opportunity to learn and hear the truth about the most misunderstood, critically endangered and the rarest wolf in North America and how you can help with current conservation efforts.

Boo at the Zoo
October 27-28, 2012
Boo at the zoo is El Paso's wildest trick-or-treat in town! Kids enjoy candy stations, music, a maze, pumpkin bowling, animal enrichment activities and much more. Visitors will also get to watch as zoo animals get pumpkins to celebrate, they love to squish them before they eat them! Boo at the Zoo provides a safe place for children to trick-or-treat and allows families to celebrate together in a fun environment. Activities and candy stations are provided at no additional cost with paid admission

Orangutan Caring Week
November 11-17, 2012
Daily Orangutan Enrichment programs from 12:30 - 1 pm Our zoo guests will be challenged by our keepers to "play" and interact with many of our orangutans tools. Daily Orangutan and Palm Oil learning Station at the Orangutan exhibit. Daily "Take action" opportunities (pledge signing, letter writing to lawmakers and companies using palm oil, using cell phones to contact companies using palm oil) free Palm Oil Shopping Guides created by El Paso Zoo Education Department.

Special Animal Encounter Programs
Scheduled Animal Encounter Programs are listed in the zoo map insert. Daily Animal Encounters include Get Moving With the Sea Lions presentations at 10:50am and 2:50pm and Elephant Training (noon) and Meerkat (2:15pm Monday to Friday, 2:00pm Saturday and Sunday) presentations. Other Animal Encounters are scheduled at various times and days during the week including Golden Eagle Encounters, Spider Monkey Encounters, Sumatran Orangutan Encounters, Lion Encounters and Giraffe Encounters. New Giraffe Encounters at 11:00am and 2:30am require a $2 token available 15 minutes prior to the start time. These encounters are scheduled Saturday and Sundays. From June 13 to through Labor Day Giraffe Encounters will be scheduled Wednesdays to Sundays. Check your map insert when you arrive for times and locations. Because our exhibits are always changing some animals may not be on exhibit when you come to the Zoo. All presentations are subject to cancellation without notice.
